Funding of $3.79m from the Provincial Growth Fund cements Marlborough’s place as the epicentre of New Zealand wine industry research and innovation.

Marlborough Research Centre Chief Executive Gerald Hope says the funding is the culmination of more than a third of a century’s work.

Three institutions offering wine and viticulture courses have signed an agreement that will see them collaborate on research and student learning with the Marlborough Research Centre and Marlborough-based Bragato Research Institute.

The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) has awarded funding to Bragato Research Institute (BRI) for a pilot study that explores transforming grape marc – the skins and seeds remaining after pressing – into hand sanitiser. The hand sanitiser from the study will be donated to Marlborough health workers and first responders.

MRC congratulates Sanford on the expansion of its marine extract facility. Sandford has been producing a Greenshell mussel powder since it purchased ENZAQ in 2017. Sanford and ENZAQ were two of the founding members of the Marlborough Food and Beverage Innovation Cluster.
