The Marlborough Research Centre congratulates Wye Hills, owned and operated by Jason Rentoul and fiancée Chelsea Hudson, on being awarded the Westpac Osgro Seeds Marlborough Farmer of the Year 2025.
The Wairau Valley farming business impressed judges with its diverse and high-performing operation—spanning Merino and Wiltshire sheep, beef and deer, viticulture, honey, and native regeneration within the Emissions Trading Scheme. The judges highlighted Wye Hills’ thoughtful use of land classes, strong governance, entrepreneurial approach, and well-documented understanding of their stock and performance metrics.
Wye Hills has been in the Rentoul family since 1919, with Jason now the fourth generation to guide the property. Their commitment to biodiversity, including a native falcon breeding area and ongoing water testing and pest control, further strengthened their win.
MRC is proud to support the Marlborough Farmer of the Year competition as part of our commitment to celebrating excellence and innovation within Marlborough’s primary industries.
A Winner’s Field Day will take place in Autumn 2026, offering a chance to explore this award winning operation firsthand. More details will be shared when available.
